Workshop
Make a Pack Frame
Make a Pack Frame Course at TRIBE
Join us at our beautiful woodland centre for a day, learning how to make a pack frame. You will turn 3 sticks, some paracord, and a plastic sheet into a comfortable and versatile rucksack. When you make a pack frame you will get to appreciate how heavy modern rucksacks are in comparison. No more heavy, bulky kit, whether your backpack breaks in the middle of an expedition or you just choose to go lightweight, knowing how to make one is not just fun to do, but can sometimes save an outdoor experience.
Whether you are completely new to bushcraft or have been practicing for a while, we’d love to welcome you. TRIBE is the perfect place to learn bushcraft and wilderness living skills
The TRIBE Bushcraft Centre is located in the heart of Holmesfield Park Wood. There is a cosy main camp area with a campfire area, seating, refreshments, compost toilets and registered first aiders.
PLEASE NOTE: The registration for this masterclass closes ‘7 days’ before the start date.
Overview of the event
On the day there will be easy signs to follow, guiding you into the TRIBE Main Camp area. There you will meet your TRIBE instructor who will be there to guide you through the course.
This Workshop will include:
- Demonstration of how to set up and use a pack frame
- Learning how to safely use the bushcraft knife (including advanced techniques)
- Making a ‘try stick’ (for practice before moving on to make the pack frame)
- Choosing the right materials, including improvised options
- Sizing the pack frame to fit your dimensions
- Processing the wood into the component parts
- Learning how to tie the knots needed for making the pack frame
- Packing your completed pack frame
- Adaptations and comfort
What should I bring?

- Lunch
- Sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing
- Reusable mug for hot drinks
Optional
- Bushcraft tools (please check with the TRIBE instructor before using these on this workshop)
