Spoon Carving Masterclass
Join us at our beautiful woodland centre for a full day masterclass, bushcraft spoon carving course. Once you have become familiar with the wonders of bushcraft, at some point you will start to think about making your first spoon but where do you begin? This 1 day masterclass will teach you everything you need to know about the rewarding hobby of spoon carving. From selecting the right wood, to knowing which knife techniques to use, this one day masterclass will equip you with all the skills needed to get you started on your spoon carving journey.
Whether you are completely new to bushcraft or have been practicing for a while, we’d love to welcome you. TRIBE is the perfect place to learn bushcraft and wilderness living skills.
The TRIBE Bushcraft Centre is located in the heart of Holmesfield Park Wood. There is a cosy main camp area with a campfire area, seating, refreshments, compost toilets and registered first aiders.

Weather Information
With a MO ‘yellow warning’, we will assess the TRIBE bushcraft centre to check it is safe to run. With a MO ‘amber warning’ or ‘red warning’ for the area, we will need to postpone or cancel the course for the day(s) the warning is in place for the safety of everyone involved. If cancelling we will provide a partial or full refund depending on what has been cancelled.
As weather warnings can be announced late, we can only apologise in advance for any changes but ultimately the safety of everyone who comes or works at TRIBE is our number one priority.
Overview of the course
On the day there will be easy signs to follow, guiding you into the TRIBE Main Camp area. There you will meet your TRIBE instructor who will be there to guide you through the course.
This course will include the following:
Tree ID
Choosing the tree and raw material to make the spoon
Using a buck saw
Splitting wood
Designing a spoon
Roughing out the spoon blank
Carving the spoon using simplet and advanced techniques based on your skill level
Using the ‘Spoon Knife’ to make the bowl of the spoon
Knife finishing techniques
Tool sharpening
Is it for me?
The children who come to this type of course are usually interested in:

Making things with their hands and using hand-tools

Want to learn how to survive in nature
Making the outdoors easier to spend time in
What should I bring?
TRIBE provides all the tools required to take part in the ‘Spoon Carving Masterclass’ course. Some equipment can be bought from TRIBE should you wish to do so. Please contact one of the event organisers (see below) to find out more.
The following kit list is required for this course:
Lunch Sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing (please note, the TRIBE Centre can become muddy) Reusable mug for hot drinks Water bottle
Optional
Bushcraft/spoon carving tools including a bushcraft knife if you own one (please check with the TRIBE instructor before using these on this course)
Gardening gloves
Insect repellent (only required for the summer)

This means we can make sure that there are enough refreshments and tools for everyone to use and so we can deliver the ultimate bushcraft experience for everyone who comes to this course.

TRIBE Masterclass has been designed with you in mind. The Masterclass sessions are limited to a maximum of 6 participants per instructor (standard events are up to 12) to give you the best experience and most support throughout the course.
