Awesome holiday bushcraft fun!
NEW EVENTS FOR 2024! – Schools out… and that means the adventure is ready to begin!
Children’s holidays are about discovery and new adventures. Being given the chance to be creative and to try lots of new activities, children will naturally become more confident and develop great new skills and knowledge.
For those at the beginning of their bushcraft journey, our TRIBE Adventure Days are the perfect choice. The children will explore the most fundamental aspects of bushcraft combined with fun, educational games, problem solving challenges and songs. Each of the Adventure Days covers a different selection of activities and with 15 Adventure Days to choose from, your child is guaranteed to learn fabulous new skills and make great new friends.

Weather Information
With a MO ‘yellow warning’, we will assess the TRIBE bushcraft centre to check it is safe to run. With a MO ‘amber warning’ or ‘red warning’ for the area, we will need to postpone or cancel the event for the day(s) the warning is in place for the safety of everyone involved. If cancelling we will provide a partial or full refund depending on what has been cancelled.
As weather warnings can be announced late, we can only apologise in advance for any changes but ultimately the safety of everyone who comes or works at TRIBE is our number one priority.
Overview of the event
On the day of the event TRIBE leader(s) will meet and introduce themselves to you and the children at the meeting point Car Park A. From there they will then walk with the children to the TRIBE woodland centre for the activities to begin.
These events will cover some of the following:
- Learning bushcraft and outdoor living skills
- How to respect nature and each other
- How to use a variety of different hand tools including knives, saws and augers
- How to forage safely
- Create camp setups including shelters and fires
- Being resourceful
- Problem solving
- Developing confidence
15 Exciting new Adventure Days for 2024
There are a total of 15 awesome Adventure Days to choose from. Each one has a different bushcraft theme and each with a different nature stamp. Check them out below.
- FIRE LADDER CHALLENGE – Learn to build ‘The Perfect Fire’ and complete the challenge of cutting through cord with the heat from the fire
- SCAVENGER HUNT – Explore the woodland in search of items useful to any aspiring bushcrafter
- NATURE ART – Get creative with different leaves and items from nature to create a masterpiece
- TENT PEGS – Learn to safely use a bushcraft knife as you carve a functional tent peg to use later on
- TREE IDENTIFICATION – Learn the unique characteristics of the different trees found in our native woodlands
- KNOTS – Knots have amazing uses and learning how to tie them quickly makes life easier in the outdoors
- SHELTER BUILDING – Learn to build a watertight shelter using tarpaulins, paracord and the tent peg made earlier in the session
- WATER FILTERS – Use gathered materials from your surroundings to construct an effective water filter capable of clearing the debris from natural water sources, ready for boiling.
- WILLOW WEAVING – Keeping with the water theme, use willow to weave a fish to take home.
- TRIPOD & POT HOOK – How do we boil the water once we’ve filtered it? This is where these items come in handy
- WATER PURIFICATION – The water has been filtered and now to make it safe to drink. Practice fire lighting and building a fire designed to boil water quickly.
- FORAGING – Living off the land means we need to know which plants help us and which don’t, learn how to forage safely
- BREAD MAKING – Yummy! Bread twists cooked over a campfire are amazing, especially when you’ve made the fire yourself.
- TRACKING – With the right knowledge getting close to the animals of the woodland becomes easier.
- CAMOUFLAGE & CONCEALMENT – See how well you can blend in with your surroundings with our camouflage games and challenges.
- LEAF ART – Use the different shades of leaves to create a wonderful piece of natural artwork
- TRY STICK – Learn how to carve a Try Stick, the perfect project to try out lots of different techniques.
- BUG HUNT – Get close to the ground in search of the smaller creatures we find in nature
- BUSHCRAFT VILLAGE – Let your creativity and ingenuity show through as you build a mini-village, whether that be a natural shelter, a fence, a path, a bridge or something else you imagine would look good in a woodland village.
- LADDERS – When the tasty fruit is just out of reach or you want a shelter that is higher, a bushcraft ladder is the perfect solution
- STONE WRAPPING – Ingeniously simple but beautifully pleasing, a fun little project that is easily replicated at home
- FIRE ROLL – Using the laws of physics we learn how to produce enough heat to make fire, no matches or lighters used.
- KNOTS – Knots can be daunting but also very useful and so making it fun and easy to remember will help
- STICK HAMMOCKS – As we know the ground can be very wet and cold so making a stick hammock allows us to swing in the trees
- COOKING TRIPOD – We have a pan and a fire but nothing to rest our pan on, this is a very easy and use skill to learn to make
- PANCAKES – Do we really need to explain this one?… PANCAKES whats not to like 🙂
- CAGE TRAP – A fun little project which develops our woodland skills for living in nature, and don’t worry no animals will be trapped on our sessions.
- CLAY TEACUP AND SAUCER – Clay has been used for thousands of years and rightly so with the number of uses it has. Learn how to harvest, process and make these items
- STICK TOWER CHALLENGE – How high can you go? This challenge will separate tall things with even taller things, a great team building challenge.
- BUSHCRAFT CUP – Finding something which can hold a water in nature can be hard, so making your own cup from a round of wood is a very useful skill indeed!
- DREAM CATCHERS – Originally designed by native Americans to protect children, from bad dreams, nightmares and evil spirits, and they are very fun to make
- FEATHER STICKS – No wet wood? no problem!, making a ‘feather stick’ takes skill but this skill is one worth learning for those wet weather days
- TERRAIN MODELLING – Learn the lay of the land and how to navigate from a 3D created map
- NATURAL CORDAGE – How long is a piece of string? Answer, as long as you want it, but first we have to learn how to make it
- NECKLACES – Now that we have made our cordage lets turn it into a beautiful wearable item
- DIFFERENT FIRES – Star, log cabin, upside down, teepee, perfect, long log are just a few ideas to try out. Which one is great to cook on, perfect for warmth, or just lovely to sit by
- BANNOCK – Simple to make and unbelievably tasty to eat… yummy!
- CLAY BOWL – Harvest, process and make a bowl out of clay found in nature
- EGG DROP CHALLENGE – That’s right this is an eggcellent challenge :-), make a container from natural materials to hold this very delicate package. Throw it up in the air and if it looks like it might break on impact, scramble!
- FIGURE 4 TRAP – Time for some accurate carving, learn how to make a trap from wood. The focus of this activity is making the item, please not we never trap any animals on our events.
- BLOW DARTS – Tribes around the world have used blow darts for thousands of years, now is your time to have a go at making and using one
- WHIMMY DIDDLE – What on earth is that? I hear you say. Well this fun little toy is one that could really take off with the kids, make a toy out of wood that can make a propeller spin super fast.
- SURVIVAL BRACELETS – Shoe laces broken… no worries, tent guy line broken… easily fixed, string for a bow… that’s covered too. The best thing is you can wear it on your wrist and looks cool. Learn how to make a bracelet that doubles up as emergency cordage
- RAISED FIRE – Some places are just literally too wet, and I don’t just mean the UK. When the ground is waterlogged or you just want to cook on a fire at a height that is comfortable, learning to make a raised fire definitely has its uses.
- TEEPEES – That’s right!, on this session you will learn how to make a teepee, learn how to setup the main poles and create a wonderfully simple and effective shelter.
- FLINT AND STEEL – One of the earliest methods humans used to make fire was to hit a rock (flint) against a piece of metal to make sparks. Now you get to try it out for yourself, and become a real caveman or cavewoman.
- HOOPLA – Let’s take a break and have a game, but first we need to make it, and entirely from natural materials.
- BOW AND ARROW – Bushcraft is about making things from nature and being able to make a bow and arrow has to be right up there with cool things to make.
- TENSION TRAY – No plate, no problem, let’s make one!
- STRETCHERS – Sometimes things don’t always go according to plan and so knowing how to make a stretcher means you can be prepared for almost anything.
Who is it for?
The children who come to this type of event are usually interested in:
- Being adventurous
- The outdoors and who love nature
- Learning and crafting things using their own hands
- Making new friends
- Having lots of fun
What should I bring?
All materials and tools for the Adventure Days are provided. If your child would like to bring tool(s) to use they are more than welcome to do so, these will however need to be checked by the TRIBE Instructor(s) for suitability before the event starts.
The following kit list is required for this event:
Outdoor footwear – we recommend walking boots (no open shoes such as sandals or crocs) Waterproof jacket Outdoor trousers (no shorts or jeans) A packed lunch Water or other cold drink
Optional
- Gardening gloves
- A hot drink
- Insect repellent (usually summer and autumn periods only)
- Mobile phone*
*Please note: If you wish for your child to bring a mobile phone, this will need to be kept in their rucksack whilst the sessions are ongoing due to safety reasons and the overall woodland experience. Please contact the event organiser (scroll down) for more information.
Additional Information
Spending time in the woods is made even more enjoyable at TRIBE by our bright & airy on-site compost toilets, foot-operated hand washing facilities, and covered Main Camp area with seats and pads for everyone.
